The restoration of the GMC CCKW 353 began in 2011, sparked by the remarkable discovery of the vehicle just 20 kilometers from the North Cape in Norway. Exposed for years to harsh Arctic conditions, the truck bore the unmistakable marks of time – corrosion, worn mechanical parts, and a weathered blue coloured exterior that told stories of a distant past. Yet beneath its rugged surface, the vehicle remained a solid candidate for revival.

Over the course of 18 months, the restoration unfolded as a careful balance between preservation and renewal. Every component was methodically assessed, with original parts restored wherever possible to maintain authenticity of this specific truck. The chassis was stripped and restored, the engine painstakingly rebuilt, and the bodywork treated to halt decades of decay. Attention to detail guided each step, ensuring that the truck would not only function again, but also reflect its historical character.

By the end of the process, the transformation was striking. What had once been a silent relic in the Norwegian wilderness emerged as a fully restored GMC CCKW 353, ready to run once more. The project stood as both a technical achievement and a tribute to the enduring legacy of this iconic military vehicle.
